College of St. Benilde cruised to its seventh straight win with a straight sets victory over Jose Rizal University, 25-22, 25-13, 25-20, while San Beda shocked University of Perpetual Help in the NCAA Season 95 volleyball Friday at The Arena in San Juan City.
Gayle Pascual and Mycah Go combined for 16 points as the Lady Blazers moved within a win of earning a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
The Lady Blazers can earn that bonus if they beat the Mapua Lady Cardinals on Friday.
After Mapua, St. Benilde will face defending three-time champion Arellano University on Feb. 17.
Benilde’s win, however, was overshadowed by San Beda’s stunning 25-20, 25-19, 25-16 win against the Lady Altas of University of Perpetual Help.
Veteran spiker Cesca Racraquin struck hardest for the Red Spikers and finished with 18 points, including three service aces and two blocks.
San Beda thus tied Perpetual for third to fourth places at 5-2. Arellano stays in second place with a 6-1 mark.
Klarisa Abriam, who only started in the third frame, also had seven points while Diane Ventura and Kaila Ventura chipped in six for the Lady Blazers.
“Trinabaho nila itong panalo na ‘to against Perpetual Help, so credit sa mga bata,” said San Beda mentor Mesio Gavino. “Gumanda yung chance namin maka-pasok sa semifinals pero dapat mas mag-pursige pa kami.”
In men’s action, Ruvince Abrot tallied 25 points and nine digs as St. Benilde defeated JRU, 25-20, 21-25, 25-12, 25-20, to draw level with Arellano at third with a 5-2 card.
