Philanthropist and composer-singer Jose Mari Chan, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and her father, former House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., former Vice President Noli de Castro, Kris Aquino, and Vic Sotto will suffer huge financial losses if a Viber post circulated among congressmen and their staff is to be believed.
They, together with Angel Locsin, John Estrada, and Ice Seguerra, are tagged as among the Top 100 stockholders of the ABS-CBN broadcast network which is in peril of losing its legislative franchise.
These well-known personalities are also among the big stockholders who are not related to the Lopez family that owns at least 65 percent of the total value of the embattled network.
Other names that ring a bell in the Top 100 stockholders list are Kim Chiu, Angelica Panganiban, and director Olivia Lamasan.
The Viber message that contained the list of Top 100 stockholders of the Kapamilya Network was shared among members of the House and their staff yesterday.
Topping the list of alleged largest co-owners of the troubled network are Lopez Inc., with 480,933,747 shares of stocks; PCD Nominee Corp., 352,410,599; Jose Mari Lim Chan, 1,257,130; Ching Tiong Keng and ABS-CBN Foundation Inc., 780,995 shares.
De Castro, who made a name as top anchor of the network’s radio DZMM, is listed as No. 25 among biggest stockholders. He is followed by the Belmontes at No. 26.
Lamasan owns larger shares compared to the three politicians. Her name appeared 20th in the list.
Locsin, who used to be a contract star of rival GMA-7, is in the 29th spot and is listed in her real name, Angelica Colmenares.
Commenting on the list that showed the actress as among those to be affected by the ABS-CBN franchise issue, former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares, uncle of Locsin, commented that his niece is quite careful with her finances.
Colmenares, who was apparently surprised to find his niece’s name in the list of stockholders, is a staunch supporter of the network’s bid to have its franchise renewed for another 25 years.
Aquino, sister of former President Benigno Aquino III, was previously the Kapamilya Network’s biggest star. She is 64th in the list. (Ben Rosario)
