University of the East won the two gold medals disputed in the women’s division Wednesday to boost its bid of regaining the throne in the UAAP Fencing Tournament at the Paco Arena.
The Lady Warriors made it 1-2 in the women’s individual saber event as Queendenise Dalmacio bested Elvielyn Joy Javinar, 15-5, in the final.
This came as Maxine Esteban lost her chance to retain the women’s individual saber crown – and Ateneo’s back-to-back championship after a 15-6 defeat to Javinar in the semifinals.
The 20-year old reigning women’s MVP, who won the individual foil Tuesday, failed to reach the podium in the individual epee.

UE though remains on top of the men’s leaderboard with a 2-2-0 gold-silver-medal tally heading into Thursday’s team events.
With a 2-1-2 haul after two days, the Lady Warriors appeared headed to regaining the overall championship.
