The temperature dipped to 9.4 degrees Celsius in Baguio City yesterday morning, the coldest so far in the summer capital this year and since the northeast monsoon season started.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said the temperature was recorded in its synoptic station at around 6 a.m.
According to PAGASA, this is the lowest temperature so far in Baguio this year and since the start of the northeast monsoon or “amihan” season last year.
The lowest temperature recorded in Baguio was 6.3°C in 1961, PAGASA said.
Amihan, which started in October and will last until early March, still prevails across the country and continues to blow cool winds and bring chilly weather.
In Metro Manila, temperature dropped to 22 degrees Celsius yesterday morning. The coldest temperature in Metro Manila this amihan season was 18.5 degrees Celsius twice, on Feb. 1 and 4.
Weather specialists said amihan will continue to affect the Philippines until Feb. 25 before shifting into the transition period towards the hot and dry season.
Good weather will prevail across the country this weekend with light rains in some parts of Luzon and Visayas due to amihan.
Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Panay will have cloudy skies with light rains from the northeast monsoon. (Alexandria San Juan)
