The cold breeze coming from the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will gradually weaken in the coming days as the weather system will likely end by the first half of March.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Joey Figuracion said amihan will prevail over most of Luzon and Visayas until tomorrow before temporarily weakening by Wednesday.
He said that random gusts of cold breeze may persist in Luzon, particularly over the extreme Northern Luzon, as the surge of northeast monsoon is no longer expected in the coming week. “It will not be as cold as the past few weeks,” he pointed out.
Baguio City’s lowest air temperature was registered at 11 degrees Celsius, while Quezon City’s minimum temperature was recorded at 22.6 degrees Celsius yesterday.
The coldest days in Baguio City and Quezon City this amihan season were registered last Feb. 21 at 9.4 degrees Celsius, and last Feb. 1 and 4 at 18.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The northeast monsoon remains the prevailing weather system across Luzon and Visayas as of yesterday.
PAGASA said cloudy skies with light rains may affect Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, Quezon, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino. (Ellalyn Ruiz)
