Salvacion “Sally” Gerona, the mother of Vice President Leni Robredo, died Saturday night. She was 83.
Robredo confirmed her mother’s death in a post on her personal Facebook page.
“Mommy breathed her last at 7:27 tonight, Feb. 22,” her post read.
Robredo, however, did not give details about the cause of Sally’s death. Her mother was hospitalized for a month.
In the same post, she said the wake of her mother will be held at the Eternal Chapels and Mortuary, Eternal Gardens in her hometown of Naga City starting at 4 p.m. yesterday.
The Vice President thanked the people who offered prayers and conveyed condolences to the family.
Sally is the wife of late Regional Trial Court Judge Antonio Gerona. She was a teacher at the Universidad de Sta. Isabel, where Robredo finished primary school.
Malacañang yesterday condoled with Robredo over the death of her mother.
“We wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to Vice President Ma. Leonor ‘Leni’ Robredo for the passing of her beloved mother, Ms. Salvacion Gerona. In this time of bereft, we also offer our thoughts and sympathy to the family, relatives, and friends of Ms. Gerona,” presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said.
