ILOILO City – Before the month of love ends, a polio survivor decided to seal his partnership with a woman who has stage 4 breast cancer in Roxas City, Capiz province.
“Bal-an ko nga amo na ini sitwasyon namon, pero puno ako sang kalipay nadayaon ang amon plano (Despite of our situation, I am very happy that our plan became a reality),” Eddy Sarad told said in a phone interview.
The 53-year-old Sarad of Pilar town married his long-time partner Gloria Pacarya of Samar in a Monday wedding ceremony at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital. A priest performed the wedding rites inside a very tight and hot female ward where the wife has been admitted.
The couple has no time for a honeymoon as the 55-year-old wife’s tumor has metastasized to her lungs and has a hard time breathing.
Sarad, a polio victim, said it pains him to look at his wife’s condition while also getting worried that money is running out for her treatment.
The condition is not just a financial burden but also an emotional burden for the past four years since the wife’s diagnosis. Sarad said that his wife has not seen her immediate family in Samar since she left to work in Manila where they met.
“She wants to see them. But I know they cannot afford to come to Capiz,” Sarad said in Hiligaynon.
“I just hope someone can help so she gets to see her family for the last time,” Sarad added.
Meanwhile, their story is gaining attention on social media site. (Tara Yap)
