Police yesterday arrested two Chinese casino workers for allegedly kidnapping their 32-year-old compatriot in Parañaque City.
Police Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, director of the PNP-Anti-Kidnapping Group, said the operation that led to the rescue of Jiang Longgen from the suspects Jiang Zhenqiang and Zhu Peijian stemmed from the call for assistance from casino security in Parañaque.
“The security personnel of the hotel were informed of the kidnapping and they immediately relayed the information to us, the reason behind the successful operation,” said Estomo.
Estomo had earlier met casino managers to discuss coordination and cooperation amid the rising number of casino-related kidnappings.
One of the measures agreed upon was for casino personnel to fully cooperate in the preventive and police intervention on kidnappings perpetrated by Chinese working for loan sharks in casinos.
PNP-AKG spokesman Police Major Ronaldo Lumactod said the case is similar to the modus in the past in which Chinese loan sharks would loan money to losing foreign casino gamblers.
Once the victim loses anew, he or she would be abducted and force his or her relatives abroad to pay huge sum of money.
The group would even go to the extent of shooting the video of the victim while being tortured to force the relatives to pay. (Aaron Recuenco)
