Bureau of Immigration officers at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport have arrested an African woman who attempted to leave the country for Canada using fake travel documents.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said 43-year-old Djiowo Sandrine, allegedly a Cameroonian national, was apprehended last Wednesday at the immigration departure area of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
Morente said Sandrine attempted to board an EVA Air flight to Taipei enroute to her final destination in Vancouver, Canada when she was intercepted by members of the BI Travel Control and Enforcement Unit.
“She will be deported for using a spurious immigration document and banned from re-entering the country,” the BI chief said.
BI Intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. reported that the passenger was in possession of a spurious Canadian electronic travel authorization document which she intended to use to illegally enter Canada.
“She was also caught in possession of a fake US green card and a fraudulent passport, thus, we suspect that she is an impostor,” Manahan said.
He added that the woman’s true nationality is still unknown as she presented fraudulent Cameroonian passport.
She was subsequently flown to Manila and detained at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings. (Jun Ramirez)
