Perpetual University Molino overpowered Malayan Colleges Laguna, 74-64, to capture the 20th South Luzon Colleges and University Athletic Association (SLCUAA) title on Saturday at the St. Francis of Assisi Colleges Bayanan campus gymnasium.
Forward Mark Calawigan helped power the team and was later named season MVP while Gavin Umali and Brian Sobrepena joined him in the Mythical Five selection together with Ivan Torres of St. Francis, as well as Gab Alconara and Paul Hegarty of Malayan.
The team of coach Phelot Levita applied full court pressure in final minutes of the game that ended Malayan’s comeback bid, enough to give Perpetual U Molino its second championship in five years.
“First of all, thanks to God Almighty for the gift and guidance to us and also to Perpetual community specially to team owner Boss Tony Tamayo and the Molino campus officials for their unwavering support to us,” Levita said.
Perpetual U edged SFACs Bacoor in the semis to gain a finals berth after a 7-0 win-loss record in elimination round. The Molino Altas also downed last year’s champion De La Salle Lipa in the elims.
