BAGUIO CITY – A former barangay chairman, reportedly a supporter of the government’s drive against the New People’s Army (NPA), was shot dead in front of his wife in Tinoc, Ifugao, Monday.
Police identified the victim identified as Joseph Calabso, 47,of Barangay Tukucan, Tinoc,Ifugao.
Investigation showed that the victim and his wife Maya Calabson were inside the compound of their house when three men barged in at 11 a.m. on March 2.
Maya told investigators that her husband greeted the three suspects, one of them introduced himself as Francis.
The suspects brought down their backpacks and while they were conversing, one of them went out and talked to someone.
The two suspects, who were left inside the house, pulled their short firearms and shot the victim in the forehead. The other suspect then went near wounded victim and shot him again.
Maya said she was shocked upon seeing the incident.
According to police, the suspects slowly walked away after the shooting, leaving behind four copies of letter from Nona del Rosario Comnand of NPA operating in Ifugao. The NPA accused the victim of being a government supporter who provided information against the rebels and used his house as harboring area of the Philippine Army. (Zaldy Comanda)
