CEBU CITY – Two Chinese were arrested last Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping three compatriots in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Operatives of the Philippine National Police-Anti-Kidnapping Group-Visayas Field Unit arrested A Gui and Xiao Fan in a two-story apartment in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City where the three victims were rescued.
Police Col. Dexter Rellora, chief of the AKG-VFU, said based on the initial reports that they received, the suspects and the victims, two of them are siblings, are Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators workers in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.
Police Col. Clarito Baja, chief of the Lapu-Lapu City police, said they coordinated with the AKG-VFU when the Chinese consulate office in Cebu reported that three of its nationals were abducted last Feb. 26.
Rellora said the kidnappers demanded 120,000 yuans (P876,000) from the family of the two Chinese siblings aged 29 and 28.
The kidnappers also demanded 50,000 yuans (P365,000) from the family of the third victim, who is 21-years-old.
When the kidnapping reached the AKG-VFU Wednesday, a rescue operation was immediately planned.
With the help of the information provided by the Chinese consulate, police were able to locate the apartment where the victims were brought. (Calvin Cordova)
