Police yesterday filed criminal charges against security guard Archie Paray who held 50 people hostage in a mall in San Juan City last Monday.
Police Major Gen. Debold Sinas, director of the National Capital Region Police Office, said the cases were filed before the San Juan City Prosecutor’s Office.
Cases filed were frustrated murder, serious illegal detention, violation of Republic Act 9516 (Possession of an Explosive or Incendiary Device), violation of RA 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition), and violation of Batas Pambansa Bilang 6 (Illegal Possession of Bladed Weapon).
Paray is currently under the custody of the San Juan police station. He agreed to surrender at around 8:45 p.m. or more than nine hours after the hostage drama.
He was tackled during his press conference which was one of his requests before he agreed to surrender.
Sinas said that they will look into the gripes of Paray.
Paray claimed that he was forced to stage a hostage-taking at V-Mall in Greenhills to avenge the lack of due process that he and his fellow security guards had from the hands of mall security officials.
He was dismissed as security guard over a confrontation with a mall tenant who allegedly asked for his removal in exchange for P5,000.
“The allegations of Paray are also being investigated for appropriate disposition,” said Sinas. (Aaron Recuenco)
