Majority of Filipinos expressed confidence in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in defeating the communist and terrorist groups in the country, as well as defending the West Philippine Sea and other places against any foreign threats, the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed.
In a survey released Thursday, conducted from Dec. 13 to 16, 2019 among 1,200 respondents, SWS found that 79 percent of them believe that the military could defeat communist and terrorist groups in the Philippines, while 62 percent believe that the navy would not let any country invade the Philippine waters, among others.
The communist group being referred to by SWS is the Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) and the terrorist groups are the Islamic States (IS) and the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).
Only four percent of Filipinos said that they have little confidence in the military and 12 percent in the navy. The remaining were undecided.
In general, SWS said, 79 percent of the respondents were satisfied with the performance of the AFP and only five percent were not.
This gives a net satisfaction rating (percent satisfied minus percent dissatisfied) of +74, which was classified by SWS as “excellent.” (Joseph Almer Pedrajas)
