Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has signed an ordinance mandating fastfood restaurants in Manila to hire senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Ordinance No. 8598 states that qualified senior citizens and PWDs will be given work in fast food restaurants in Manila for a maximum of six months.
The hired senior citizens and PWDs will work for a minimum of four hours for at least four days a week and will be paid at least the minimum wage.
The ordinance also states that companies are prohibited from assigning tasks to senior citizens and PWDs that are hazardous to their health and are beyond their physical capability.
A Technical Working Group will be formed by the city government to draft the rules and regulations before the implementation of the ordinance.
Several fast food corporations have partnered with the Manila city government to provide jobs for senior citizens and PWDs since 2019. (Minka Tiangco)
