A Quezon City Regional Trial Court has junked the plea of former Ozamiz City Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog to dismiss the drug cases filed against her.
In a resolution released last Thursday, Quezon City RTC Branch 228 Judge Mitushealla Manzanero-Casiño denied Parojinog’s demurrer to evidence for lack of merit. Parojinog’s camp was ordered by the court to present evidence in her defense on March 17.
A demurrer to evidence is a pleading seeking the dismissal of the case based on the insufficiency of the prosecution’s evidence.
The counsel of Parojinog stated in the demurrer that the 677.77 grams of shabu allegedly seized by the police at her residence on July 30, 2017 was planted evidence.
In the demurrer, Parojinog’s camp maintained that irregularities were committed, making the entire operation doubtful.
The court said the prosecution has presented sufficient evidence to substantiate the charge that would require Parojinog to counter the allegations with her own pieces of evidence. (Chito Chavez)
