In celebration of National Women’s Month, women passengers will get free rides at the Light Rail Transit 2 and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 today, Sunday, March 8.
An advisory from the Department of Transportation said that free rides would be provided for all women passengers on both train systems during peak hours from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This initiative is part of the DOTr and Light Rail Transit Authority’s activities in line with the celebration of this year’s National Women’s Month.
Apart from the free rides, LRTA Administrator Reynaldo Berroya added that Philippine Commission on Women-designed collaterals will also be distributed to commuters on International Women’s Day.
The LRTA chief added that they have been streaming their awareness drive against gender-based violence through the Passenger Assist-Rail Display System inside the trains as part of their advocacy campaign since 2018.
Berroya said there are women’s desks at LRT 2 Cubao and Recto Stations where female passengers can report cases of violence against women and children and other gender-related complaints. (Alexandria San Juan)
