A policeman detailed at the Office of the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief was shot to death Monday morning by two motorcycle-riding gunmen while aboard his car in Makati City.
Major Gideon Ines Jr., Makati Police chief, identified the victim as Police Major Jeffrey Dalson.
Dalson was attacked while his car was parked in front of a mechanic shop on J.P. Rizal in Barangay East Rembo around 7 a.m., a police report said.
Based on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, one of the assailants wearing a helmet and black face mask got off a motorcycle and went to the side of Dalson who was talking to a mechanic.
The gunman then shot him several times in the body at closed range.
The mechanic hid inside his shop.
Before leaving, the gunman even opened the right door of the car to check if Dalson was already dead. He then rode the motorcycle driven by his cohort, who also acted as a lookout, and fled toward Buting St.
The mechanic told investigators that he heard seven gunshots during the incident.
Ines said the family of the slain cop believes that the motive behind the killing had something to do with his job as he served as an anti-illegal drug operative in Quezon City.
“The family said that he has many enemies, because of his job. We learned that he served as an anti-illegal drug cop in Quezon City,” the chief investigator said.
Before he was transferred to the Office of the PNP chief, he was assigned to the Quezon City Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit.
Ines said Dalson also served in Mindanao. (Jel Santos)
