The firing spree of suspected corrupt public officials continues.
President Duterte bared last Tuesday that he has fired six officials from the Bureau of Immigration for alleged corruption.
At least 42 Customs personnel have also been dismissed from service over corruption allegations, according to the President.
“I think sa Bureau of Immigration I fired about six. ‘Yung sa Customs ‘yung matagal na tag-31 years, I got them fired, 42 of them. Customs. Ayaw ko lang i-publicize,” he said during an assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines in Pasay City.
Duterte said he hates corruption, especially after serving as a prosecutor of the Tanodbayan, now known as the Ombudsman. He said he has prosecuted many people over corruption during his stint as prosecutor.
“The TanodBayan is the predecessor of the Ombudsman. So matagal akong naglibot ng Mindanao pati Visayas, prosecuting – prosecuting corruption. So ‘yon ang tandaan ninyo. That is why my – my hatred for ‘yung mga ganun dahil karamihan tayo nagtiis naman, ‘yung iba naman nakaw dito nakaw,” he said.
Duterte also said he is unforgiving when it comes to corruption. Among the officials the President previously fired were allies from the days he ran for mayor in Davao City.
“Ako talaga basta corruption wala akong patawad. Wala talaga akong patawad,” he said.
“I have fired undersecretaries. And if you can remember, if your fingers can count and remember, I have fired six of my…Some of them my closest friends who were with me during the 1988 campaign when I ran for mayor,” he added. (Genalyn Kabiling)
