The Bureau of Immigration has arrested an American wanted in his country for a string of child sexual offenses.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said 49-year-old Christopher John Erickson was arrested last March 5 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental by operatives from the Fugitive Search Unit.
FSU head Bobby Raquepo said the BI chief issued the mission order for the arrest of the alien fugitive based on the request of US authorities.
Raquepo said the arrest was conducted in coordination with the United States Diplomatic Security Service-Overseas Criminal Investigations and Philippine National Police.
“An arrest warrant was issued against Erickson last October by the Onondaga County Superior Criminal Court in Syracuse, New York,” Raquepo added.
Records showed Erickson is wanted for various sexual misconducts like sexual abuse in the first degree, forcible touching, and endangering the welfare of a child.
“He (Erickson) is an overstaying alien who poses risk to public security and safety,” Morente said.
The BI travel database showed that Erickson arrived in the country as tourist on June 8, 2019 and never left the country.
Erickson was placed at the BI detention center in Taguig City pending deportation. (Jun Ramirez)
