CEBU CITY – Four persons were killed in a collision between a van-for-hire and a passenger bus on Friday the 13th in Compostela, Cebu.
Three other passengers of the van and the drivers of the public utility vehicles were injured in the accident on the national highway at 3 a.m.
Police Col. Roderick Mariano, Cebu police chief, said the van was reportedly running at high speed when it tried to overtake another vehicle but ended up colliding with a Ceres bus.
Mariano said the van which came from Daanbantayan, Cebu was severely damaged that its roof was ripped off.
The driver of the van, Patrick Yolo, 20, was critically wounded.
The bus driven by Jerry Lubon, 32, came from the North Bus Terminal in Mandaue City.
Lubon said that he was driving at a speed of between 40 to 50 kilometers per hour when the van encroached the opposite lane that resulted into the collision.
The names of the fatalities were unavailable as of presstime. The van’s three male passengers died on the spot while a female passenger died in the hospital.
Among the injured passengers were Mark Lester Briones, 35, and William Lanzadares, 37. (Calvin D. Cordova)
