CEBU CITY – Ten female workers were rescued from a massage parlor which allegedly offered “extra service” to its male customers.
The manager and the owner of Flora Spa in Barangay Banilad here were arrested when police raided the establishment shortly before 4 p.m. last Wednesday.
The manager was identified as Emelita Orang, a 31-year-old resident of Barangay Busay, Cebu City. The owner, a 44-year-old Korean, was identified as Kim Jong Pyo.
Police Lt. Erlinda Mayam, chief of the Women and Children Protection Center of the Cebu City Police Office, said it was last month when they received a tip from a concerned citizen that lewd activities were happening in the spa.
The payment for the “extra service” ranged from P1,000 to P10,000.
Female workers aged between 25- to 53-years-old were rescued during the entrapment operation, Mayam said.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 9208 in relation to RA 10364 also known as the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act will be filed against the manager and the owner.
“I didn’t know what was going on in the massage room because the agreement for the extra service was between the therapist and the customer,” said Orang when interviewed in her cell.
The rescued women were turned over to the office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. (Calvin D. Cordova)
