The number of confirmed novel coronavirus disease-2019 cases in the Philippines soared to 380 yesterday, an official of the Department of Health said.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the country had 73 new cases of COVID-19, with 25 deaths and 15 recoveries.
The DoH last Saturday recorded 77 more cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Philippines to 307.
Vergeire said that there is still no concrete evidence if a patient who had already recovered from COVID-19 could be infected again.
“Base sa experience and mga notations galing sa ibang bansa meron pong nagsasabi that there is reinfection, meron pong nagsasabi that there is recurrence. Pero hanggang sa ngayon, dito sa bansang ito wala pa po tayong napapatunayan na ganyan,” said Vergeire.
Vergeire noted that health experts are still conducting further studies about COVID-19.
“Hanggang sa ngayon, all over the globe, wala pa rin naman pong hard evidence for this. Pinag-aaralan pa pong mabuti lahat,” said Vergeire. “Itong sakit na ito is novel…ibig sabihin bagong sakit. Marami pa po tayong kailangan malaman, everything is evolving,” she added.
