BACOLOD CITY – Policemen are investigating the death of an eight-year-old girl whose body was found three weeks after she was reported missing in Ilog, Negros Occidental.
Maj. John Ganzon, town police chief, said the child was last seen by her parents on March 7 in a market in Kabankalan City, when she tagged along with them.
They asked her for an errand, but later that day her parents reported her missing when she failed to go home, he added.
After almost three weeks of searching, her decomposing body was found in a sugarcane plantation at Barangay Andulauan on Wednesday morning, Ganzon said.
She was positively identified by her parents, he added.
Ganzon said the child was half-naked when found, indicating a possible sexual molestation.
He, however, said they cannot confirm it yet, pending the autopsy results.
He said they could not yet tell how the child reached the town, and if she was killed there or if she was just left there.
He said they already have a person of interest but they are not sure yet if one or more persons were behind the killing.
They are coordinating with the Kabankalan City Police Station for a possible lead on the perpetrator. (Glazyl Masculino)
