CRASH LANDING: With plenty of downtime at home, a lot of people have suddenly joined the Koreanovela bandwagon. My own home is witness to this pop- cultural invasion.
Titles like “Crash Landing on You (CLOY),” “Encounter,” “Doctor Romantic,” have become familiar, popular even, to a lot of people forced by the corona virus, or Covid-19, to stay at home.
The massive wave created by “CLOY” has reached the homes of well-known personalities, who swear by
the series’ moving story, conflict between the two Korea’s – North and South – and how two lovers coming from opposite ends of the country, mix and match against all odds.
On social media, I spot local actresses confessing their love and admiration for the series’ handsome male lead, Hyun Bin, better known for his character, Captain Ri.
Aired on Netflix worldwide “CLOY” is a South Korean drama directed by Lee Jeong-hyo and featuring Hyun Bin, Son Ye-jin, Kim Jung-hyun, and Seo Ji-hye.
The series is about a wealthy South Korean woman who accidentally crash-lands in North Korea.
It is said to have a sequel set for airing in December 2020, unless production has halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

OWE MY LOVE: Among those hooked to Koreanovelas and who considers himself a certified fan is Benjamin Alves.
On Instagram, Alves said that watching Korean programs is a form of bonding between him and his girlfriend.
The GMA actor said that when the present situation clears, he hopes to resume work on a new program under GMA Public Affairs. It will be a rom-com series called “Owe My Love.”
He says he’s drawing inspiration from the many Korean shows that he has consumed.
