The doctor who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and is working for the hospital in Boracay Island, is recovering without hospitalization.
“He only has mild symptoms and has been under strict isolation,” said Dr. Cornelio Cuachon Jr., chief of the Aklan Provincial Health Office (APPO).

The doctor is currently staying at a hostel managed by the Aklan provincial government in Kalibo, the provincial capital.
The 37-year-old doctor and chief of the Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital, which is located in Boracay, is one of the three confirmed COVID-19 cases in Aklan province.
The doctor traveled to Manila last March 4 and returned March 7.
Cuachon said the doctor initially manifested symptoms such as cough and sore throat last March 10. By March 18, he was transferred to the government-run hostel in Kalibo to be isolated.
Cuachon also confirmed that the hospital in Boracay has been closed while the staff who had contact with the hospital chief are undergoing quarantine.
“So far, none of them are showing symptoms,” Cuachon noted.
Meanwhile, there is no scheduled date as to when the hospital in Boracay will reopen. (Tara Yap)
