WHEN times are hard and full of uncertainties, keep calm and staypositive. It’s usually the calm and optimistic people who survive when there is a crisis. Calmness enables them to focus on a problem and think of smart ways to deal with it. A positive attitude lets them see a crisis as temporary and enables them to muster enough courage, summon enough strength to endure the hardships, to minimize their effects, and to look for solutions.
The following will help you stay calm and positive when going through any kind of crisis.
Keep yourself busy. Continue doing productive and worthwhile things. Sitting and fretting will only give you wrinkles, raise your blood pressure, give you sleepless nights, and drain your energy.
Listen to optimistic people. Avoid the ones who love to complain and find fault in everything. They consider everything and everybody as hopeless. If you cannot avoid them completely, minimize your interaction with them.
Pray more. Talking to God is connecting to a power source. God gives rest to the weary – wisdom and strength to those who ask. When you start to worry, tell yourself that He is in control. Recall how God helped you during your difficult times.
Grow a garden. As they say, planting trees will help you develop patience. Each sprout, flower, and fruit is a proof of life. The mere sight of growth will give you excitement and energy. Whatever the trials and uncertainties, plants are a reminder that life goes on – must go on!
Be still. There are times in your life when you need to pause. Take this from Haruki Murakami: “This is one more piece of advice I have for you: Don’t get impatient. Even if things are so tangled up, you can’t do anything, don’t get desperate or blow a fuse and start yanking on one particular thread before it’s ready to come undone. You have to realize it’s going to be a long process and that you’ll work on things slowly, one at a time.”
