CAMP GEN. PANTALEON GARCIA, IMUS, Cavite — At least six persons were arrested by police in a “tupada” (illegal cockpit) operation in Barangay Sapa II in Rosario municipality.
The police conducted the operation even with the enforced enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the coronavirus cisease 2019 (CoVID-19) pandemic.
There were orders from the Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) hierarchy for the local police to conduct operations against illegal gambling in their respective jurisdictions even with the enforced ECQ.
Illegal gambling such as “tupada” and “sacla” (old Spanish card game) are ticklish issues in Cavite as they operate off-and-on in the province.
Some cockfight aficionados were reportedly nabbed earlier in “tupada” operations in the cities of Bacoor, Dasmarinas and Trece Martires.
The Rosario (or Salinas) police identified those arrested at 12:45 noon Tuesday operation as Lloyd Justin Cayatano Perez, 29, Junie del Rosario Tabal, 48, Marlon Manlapig Martinez, 40, Arthur Tambal Rosita, 37, Jesus Orlanda Rosita, 31, and Jelvin Jamito Caudilla, 42, all residents of Barangay Sapa.
Corporal Lynard P. Pareja, case investigator, reported that confiscated from the suspects were gambling money amounting to P1,757, two fighting cocks, and two sets of “tari”(gaffs).
Pareja said that a charge for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 (tupada-illegal gambling) was set to be filed against the suspects at the Cavite Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Imus City.
Major Jowie Bantoto Lucas, Rosario police officer-in-charge, ordered the operation on Tuesday after the police station was tipped off about the “tupada” in Sapa area. (Anthony Giron)
