Vice President Leni Robredo backs the proposal to extend the enhanced community quarantine to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus disease-2019 in Luzon.
“Sang-ayon ako dahil iyong nakikita natin na mga projections, makakabuti para i-flatten iyong curve kung hahabaan pa ito,” Robredo said yesterday.
Robredo said it was “crucial” for the people to understand the need for the government to extend the quarantine period beyond April 12. “Kasi kapag hindi nila naiintindihan kung bakit kailangan ito gawin, iyong resistance nandiyan.”
Robredo explained public fear about the extension will be addressed if people get clear information about the situation and assistance are fasttracked.
Also backing the extension are Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman.
Año maintained that efforts to contain COVID-19 will go for naught if the ECQ is prematurely rescinded.
Lagman said the extension would allow mass testing for COVID-19. He warned that mass testing after the lockdown expires “will be counter-productive.” (Raymund Antonion, Charissa L. Atienza, and Chito Chavez)
