TAGBILARAN CITY — The Province of Bohol has tightened its border security as cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in some provinces and cities in Central Visayas and nearby Visayas regions.
Bohol Governor Arthur Yap issued his directive to the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Bohol provincial chief Col. Jonathan Cabal to continue arresting violators of the community quarantine and other preventive protocols in one of meetings of the Provincial Emergency Management Administration (PEMA).
According to Yap, port authorities have been alerted of reports that some persons managed to sneak into the province through inbound cargo vessels by paying big sum of money to the crew.
Yap stressed the importance of strengthened border security and entry point surveillance to help prevent COVID-19 spread to Bohol.
As of end of March, 250 violators were arrested, many of them for curfew and liquor ban offense. Others were charged by police for prohibited entry to Bohol by sea while the province is still on community quarantine. (Minerva Newman)
