TNT KaTropa’s Troy Rosario has joined the bandwagon of sports and movie personalities stepping out of their homes to do their share in the fight against hunger and poverty due to COVID-19.
Rosario distributed food packs in the Quezon City area on Easter Sunday, knowing full well there are now families having hard time to make their ends meet due to enhanced community quarantine brought about by coronavirus pandemic.
“Kailangan na e,” said Rosario, who was helped out by wife, Michelle, in providing help, mostly essentials, to the poor.
“Matagal ko na din itong ginagawa at hindi ako humihingi ng anumang kapalit. Sa dami ng blessings na dumarating sa akin ano ba naman ung maging blessing din ako sa iba,” he added.
The 28-year-old player who turned pro in 2015 after leading the National University Bulldogs to a UAAP title, initially posted on Instagram repackaging of more than 100 bags of goods with his family last Saturday.
Rosario, who also got an assist in the repackaging of food from niece Mary Joy, sister-in-law Marinel Aguas and sister Eunice, said that his gesture is about helping and inspiring others to do the same.
“Posting this not to brag but to inspire others. First few weeks ng lockdown I was helping thru donations hoping and praying na matapos na itong pandemic,” Rosario said after some fellow PBA players were bashed instead of being commended after they reached out and helped.
Rosario added: “Unfortunately, na-extend yung lockdown. So right now I just want to do my part to help people na walang wala dahil naapektuhan nitong crisis. Alam ko yung pakiramdam na wala ng mahugot at mapambili ng pagkain. Malalagpasan din natin to. Magtiwala lang at magdasal.”
The 6-foot-7 veteran of the national team said that he doesn’t care anymore on people’s comments, saying: “Sa mga gnitong sitwasyon wala na akong pakialam sa mga sasabihin ng ibang tao.”
Rosario was also one of the players who responded when the PBA Commissioner’s Office asked for support for game day personnel.
However, this is the first time that he is leading the food donations, which he intends to follow up until the lockdown is lifted.
