A Catholic priest has warned the public against unscrupulous people using the name of the church to dupe others.
Father Jerome Secillano of the Nuestra Senora del Perpetuo Socorro Parish in Manila issued the warning after learning that there are people going around to solicit money from their parishioners.
“It has come to my attention that there are people going around the parish soliciting money from our parishioners by using the name of our church,” he said in a Facebook post.
“In my years of service at NSPS, I have never ordered anyone to solicit from you,” Secillano added.
“Please do not give anything to those taking advantage of this situation,” he said.
The priest then appealed to those behind the scheme not to use the church in duping people.
“To those doing this, if you are hungry and in need, do not fool others by using the church,” Secillano said.
He said the church is willing to help them if indeed they have a legitimate need. (Leslie Aquino)
