DOCTORS tell us one good way to fight COVID-19, the corona virus or any other virus, is to maintain a strong immune system.
Good nutrition, enhanced by eating fruits and vegetables, is a must. Sleep and exercise add up to the equation.
Taking 8 hours of sleep every day goes a long way.
Did you know we got our siesta habit – taking naps in the afternoon – from our Spanish colonizers?
Then and until now, many, if not all, towns and cities in Spain slow down, close their shops, after lunch, so that people could rest and take a short nap.
According to Tripsavvy, siesta in Spain is marked by two periods. For shops and businesses, siesta time is from approximately 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Meanwhile, bars and restaurants close from about 4 p.m. until about 8 or 9 p.m.
Taking afternoon naps isn’t limited to Spain. Other countries that adopt the same habit are Costa Rica, Greece, and Italy.
The Greeks refer to their afternoon break as their quiet time.
In Italy, they call it “riposo,” “pennichella,” or “pisolino,” meaning a post-lunch repose.
