The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has seized around P41.7 million worth of medical supplies during a series of operations against persons involved in hoarding, profiteering and overpricing.
NBI Officer-in-Charge Director Eric Distor has assured that the agency will remain relentless against persons who are taking advantage of the current health emergency caused by the threat of the deadly coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Distor also called on the public to report to the NBI all illegal activities.
The NBI said the P41.7 million worth of medical supplies were seized during the 64 buy-bust operations it conducted nationwide against hoarders and profiteers since the government imposed the enhanced community quarantine in March.
The items include alcohol, hand sanitizer, thermal scanners, surgical and face masks, and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
During the operations, the NBI arrested 122 persons who were charged with violation of Republic Ac 7581, the Price Act of the Philippines; R.A. 7394, Consumer Act of the Philippines; R.A. 11469, Bayanihan to Heal as One Act; and R.A. 10175, Cyber Crime Prevention Act of 2012, for online sellers.
