ILOILO CITY — The Department of Health (DoH) bared that five medical workers, including three doctors in Western Visayas region, had tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“Four of them have already recovered,” said Dr. Renilyn Reyes, DoH regional chief for Public Health Programs.
Reyes said it is unlikely they got it while in the region as all of them had travelled to Metro Manila, which was the epicenter of COVID-19 before the nationwide community quarantine began.
The five medical workers are among the more than 50 COVID-19 positive cases recorded in Western Visayas.
Aside from three doctors, a nurse and a radiologic technologist also tested positive for COVID-19 .
Reyes did not disclose any personal details except for the places where they are from. Two are from Iloilo City and another two from Iloilo province. There was also a positive case in Aklan province.
Of the five cases involving medical workers in Western Visayas, only the case in Aklan province was divulged.
The Aklan Provincial Health Office (APPO) announced last March 27 that the hospital chief of Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital at Boracay Island, test positive for COVID-19. The 37-year-old male doctor recovered without hospitalization. (Tara Yap)
