An alleged hired killer and his cohort responsible for the recent murder of a village chairman in Cagayan were arrested in separate operations, police announced Thursday.
Col. Ariel Quilang, Cagayan provincial director identified the alleged killer as Geronimo Joaquin, alias James Bond, 39, who has pending warrant of arrest for the murder of a Nueva Ecija Provincial employee and listed the most notorious wanted man in the province.
Joaquin was nabbed at his residence in Brgy. Centro Norte, Camalaniugan. Recovered from him were seven pieces of live ammunition for .45-caliber gun placed inside a sling bag, police said.
In another follow-up operation, his cohort identified as Alvin Carlo Agabbao, also a resident of Camalaniugan, was likewise arrested.
During interrogation at Camalaniugan Police Station, Joaquin confessed that he was the one who shot Eranio Caleda, 46, barangay chairman of Julian Olivas, Camalaniugan, and named Agabbao as the one who planned the killing.
Police record showed that Caleda was fixing electrical wiring at a quarantine checkpoint when he was repeatedly shot by a motorcycle-riding around 8:55 p.m. last Tuesday. He was brought to the nearest hospital where later died. (Liezle Basa Inigo)
