CEBU CITY — Withthe increasing cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Cebu provincial government will be enforcing stricter border controls.
Governor Gwen Garcia said the province will be issuing vehicle passes that motorists must present to get through checkpoints.
The passes will be issued to personnel who are part of the skeletal workforce of establishments and offices that were allowed to continue to operate under the province-wide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
Aside the from the vehicle pass, a worker must also present his company identification card.
Garcia said a total of 2,165 names have been submitted to the Capitol for the issuance of the passes. The list includes personnel of various government offices.
Garcia said the list will be trimmed down to ensure that only those qualified will be given with passes.
The province has implemented strict border controls to limit the movement of the people. The province has also closed its borders from Cebu City, which is considered the epicenter of the outbreak in Central Visayas.
As of Thursday, Central Visayas has 366 COVID-19 cases with 329 coming from Cebu City.
Lapu-Lapu City has 20 cases; Mandaue City, nine; Negros Oriental, four; Cebu Province, three; and Bohol, one. (Calvin D. Cordova)
