The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has extended again the deadline in the filing of 2019 income tax returns (ITRs) to June 14.
The original ITRs filing deadline was April 15.
Likewise, the deadline in the filing of value-added tax returns and other tax types is also pushed forward to give taxpayers more time to prepare and submit the documents.
In most cases, the taxpayers were allowed to file the said returns 15 to 30 days after the lifting of the lockdown as prescribed under new Revenue Regulations No. 11-2020.
The order containing the new guidelines was signed by Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III based on the recommendation of BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay.
The regulations also moved the deadline for the filing of the tax amnesty on delinquencies to June 22.
The amnesty grants individual and business taxpayers immunity from criminal and civil actions for non-payment of back taxes.
It covered tax liabilities incurred in 2017 and prior years.
The tax amnesty rates range from 40 to 60 percent of the basic tax, meaning without penalties and surcharges.
However, negligent withholding agents are required to pay 100 percent of the unremitted taxes on the ground that the collections already belonged to the BIR. (Jun Ramirez)
