The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) assured Wednesday that corrupt barangay officials will be dealt accordingly if it is proven that unqualified residents were given subsidy under the social amelioration program (SAP).
DILG Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Diño claimed the existence of collusion among government officials in SAP-related irregularities.
He admitted that the DILG Emergency Operations Center is swamped with cash grant complaints under SAP that have breached the 2,000 mark.
Despite the high number of complaints, Diño urged the public to report rogue barangay officials in their turfs and to examine the list of cash aid recipients that the DILG ordered to be prominently displayed in the barangay premises.
Even with the display of the list of the beneficiaries, complaining residents said that dishonest barangay men had the gall to include in the roster those least affected by the novel coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) crisis, thinking that it will go unnoticed as the DILG are overwhelmed with the thousands of SAP related complaints.
Numerous complaints also noted that the names on the list have no corresponding addresses and are almost unreadable with the small font which was done to create confusion. (Chito Chavez)
