BACOLOD CITY – A radio reporter was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding armed men while on his way home in Barangay Daro, Dumaguete City, around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Slain was Cornelio Pepino, 48, known as “Rex Cornelio”, of Sibulan town, a regular news reporter and announcer of DYMD ENERGY 93.7 FM, police said
He anchored a program entitled “Pokpokin mo Baby.”
Col. Julian Entoma, Negros Oriental police director, said that Pepino was on board his motorcycle, together with his wife, on their way home when they were ambushed.
Entoma said that the victim had just come from his regular late afternoon program at the said radio station.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and was declared dead at a hospital. His wife was unharmed.
Entoma said that Pepino was probably tailed from his workplace.
He said that they have to establish yet the motive yet behind the killing.
In November 2019, Dindo Generoso, a blocktimer of dyEM 96.7 Bai Radio, was also killed in an ambush in Dumaguete City. (Glazyl Masculino)
