The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has decided to go back to the drawing board in its tactical approach to handle the grassroots and elite athletes programs.
“We have to reboot our approach,” PSC chairman Butch Ramirez during an online meeting with the members of the ManCom on Friday.
“The framework of coaching education, until no vaccine is found, will all be virtual or online, reaching out to all elite athletes in their own locations. It will totally change our sporting perspectives and strategies,” said Ramirez, who is presiding over the affairs of Philippine sports from the Philsports in Pasig.
Ramirez admits the outbreak has changed the way sports will be managed and supervised.
“That is how deeply impacting and dangerous this coronavirus is,” said Ramirez.
As social distancing is being pushed to avoid getting infected, the PSC is tapping its IT resources in place to aid in the dissemination of information concerning coaching, psychology and physiology.
“Sports protocols shall be made available for periods of GCQ, or when approved medicine and vaccine comes, although medical work on fighting the virus does not stop there,” said Ramirez.
Still, the bottomline is the safety of everyone, according to the PSC.
“COVID-19 will change the face and substance of both amateur and professional sports. Of primary importance is to save lives which is the ultimate goal of society and government,” added Ramirez.
