CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – Two big-time drug suspects were killed in a shootout with cops that led to the confiscation of over P800,000 worth of shabu at the southbound lane of Mayapa Exit here on Saturday afternoon.
Police identified the slain suspects as Renato Bayot, 38, listed as Calamba’s top high-value drug personality; and Edgardo Aguilar, 46, alleged member of Barok Fajardo Drug Group of Calamba City.
According to police report, members of the Provincial Drug Enforcement, 2nd District Team of Laguna Police, and Calamba City Police Station conducted a buy-bust operation against the suspects at 3:30 p.m. in Barangay Mayapa.
An intelligence agent managed to buy a sachet of shabu from the suspects who were aboard a Hyundai Grace van with plate number XEC 745.
The suspects, however, sensed that they were dealing with a police officer.
Bayot fired a gun at the lawmen as he and his companion tried to escape. The cops retaliated, killing the two suspects, police reported.
Police recovered from the scene a .45-caliber Colt MKIV loaded with five live bullets, a .38-caliber revolver loaded with live bullets, and shabu worth around P875,000.
The report said Bayot disposed an average of 500 grams to 1 kilogram of shabu per week and his costumers were the owners, renters, and caretakers of a private pool in the area of Pansol, Laguna; and adjacent barangays. (Danny Estacio)
