DAVAO CITY – A 25-day-old male infant was listed as the youngest patient who succumbed to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Davao region.
The Department of Health-Davao said the infant’s death on Saturday brought to 22 the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the region.
The infant was admitted to the Southern Philippines Medical Center.
Based on the report, the infant had the onset of symptoms on May 6, was admitted on May 7, and expired two days later.
The infant’s final diagnosis was septic shock secondary to neonatal sepsis, neonatal pneumonia, acute gastroenteritis with severe dehydration, multiple electrolyte imbalance, and COVID-19.
DOH-Davao said, however, that the history of exposure is still yet to be determined pending the ongoing investigation.
On Wednesday, May 6, the DoH-Davao reported the male infant was from Barangay 23 and the third baby in Davao region to have been infected with coronavirus.
On May 5, two babies – a six-day-old girl and a four-month-old girl from Bunawan District, were also found positive for COVID-19.
Davao City currently holds the highest number of positive cases in the region with a total of 159 cases, 82 recoveries, and 20 deaths.
As of May 10, the DoH-Davao has a total of 177 recorded COVID0-19 cases in the region with 22 fatalities and 98 recoveries. (Warren Elijah E. Valdez)
