ZAMBOANGA CITY – Fourteen more inmates and six personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC) were tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The new cases brought to 65 the total number of infected persons inside the facility in this city.
Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco said the city has recorded 74 COVID-19 cases, nine of them are BJMP jail guards and 56 inmates at the jail; and nine in various communities here.
Climaco, who also chairs the Zamboanga City Task Force Covid-19, said the facility is now being considered as the epicenter of the pandemic in this city.
She declined to elaborate measures that the local Task Force COVID-19 will adopt to freeze the spike of COVID-19 cases inside the jail.
The ZCRC yesterday transferred 30 women inmates to the newly completed quarantine facility of the local government here at the Zamboanga Economic Zone in the village of San Ramon, this city.
Sixty more inmates, who are about to be released, were also placed in a local hotel in this city for a 14-day quarantine starting Monday. (Nonoy Lacson)
