TAYABAS CITY, Quezon – Veteran actor and former “Hagibis” 1980s all-male group member Sonny Parsons died of heart attack here last Sunday.
Parsons – Jose Parsons Agliam Nabuila in real life – had just arrived onboard his BMW GS R1200 big bike from Marikina City at the residence of Quezon first district board member Alona Obispo in Barangay Wakas before noon.
The 61-year-old actor-director, a resident and former councilor of Marikina, complained of chest pain, and was taken to the Tayabas Community Hospital.
However, Parsons, a Muslim, died while being treated before 1 p.m.
His daughter, Maria Cecille Leyretana Nabiula, told police that his father had a heart attack before and angiogram and angioplasty.
Police concluded that Parsons died from natural causes, based on the inspection of his body. Police also said Parsons had no external injuries and ruled out foul play in his death.
His band confirmed his death and his colleagues in the entertainment industry mourned his passing.
Hagibis is the local version of popular American disco group “Village People.” Among the group’s hits were “Legs,” “Babae,” “Lalake,” and “Katawan.”
Parsons last appeared on TV in the ABS-CBN action-drama series “Ang Probinsyano” three years ago. (Danny Estacio)
