A man suffering from mental illness stabbed his wife and two young daughters while they were sleeping at their house in Barangay 145, Tondo, Manila, Monday.
The 41-year-old suspect was arrested while his 35-year-old wife and two daughters, aged 8 and 12, are now confined at Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
According to a police report, the three victims were sound asleep at around 1:55 a.m. when the suspect hacked them with a hard, large object.
The suspect’s older sister, who is also living with the family, managed to scream for help from barangay officials, who subdued and arrested the suspect.
She told the police that her brother is under medication for a mental illness that got worse after the enforcement of the enhanced community quarantine.
The victims were first brought to Tondo Medical Center and later transferred to Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
Police said that the suspect will be temporarily confined in a psychiatric hospital, with his cousin’s consent, until his family recovers and is able to give a statement on the incident.
