Eight female inmates, who earlier tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), have already recovered, the Department of Justice (DoJ) said on Friday.
“Eight persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) who earlier tested positive for Covid-19 have recovered and now test negative for the virus,” said DoJ Undersecretary Markk Perete.
The eight women were earlier taken to a quarantine facility at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City after being tested positive for the virus.
“They will be returned to the CIW compound in Mandaluyong but will remain in quarantine in said facility,” Perete said.
“The eight will only be allowed to return to their original stations after a second test confirms their negative status,” he assured.
The eight were among the 47 CIW PDLs who were taken to the NBP quarantine facility.
Aside from them, two CIW inmates and a male Bilibid PDL have already died from COVID-19.
Also, a Bilibid personnel and three CIW personnel also contracted the disease. (Jeffrey Damicog)
