The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has lauded Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto for giving cash aid even to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) parents.
In a Twitter post, the commission shared news about Sotto including LGBTQ parents in the city’s supplemental cash aid program.
“Ingklusibong ayuda, gusto natin yan! OK na OK ang panukala ni Pasig City Mayor @VicoSotto na siguruhing lahat ng pamilya ay makakatanggap ng social amelioration program,” the post read.
This post came after the CHR celebrated the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOTB) on May 17.
The CHR said that Filipinos should “break the silence” by standing up against the many forms of continuing violence against persons of diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
The commission likewise stressed that the whole country should be united with “solidarity and hope” when it comes to LGBTQ issues, because everybody needs to be treated with dignity.
CHR Spokesperson Jacqueline Ann de Guia earlier said that persons of diverse sexual orientation and gender identity and expression (SOGIE) are “oftentimes being disadvantaged for simply not conforming to some’s conservative notion of what makes males and females.” (Czarina Nicole Ong Ki)
