ABS-CBN Sports+Action courtside reporter and host-entrepreneur Roxanne “Rox” Chan Montealegre expressed elation as the fundraising she started recently to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontline health workers has earned the support of well-meaning organizations and personalities across the country.
Montealegre earlier called on goodhearted individuals to help her and her tailors provide PPE donations to doctors, nurses and medical staff caring for coronavirus-stricken patients.
Organizations and friends heeded her call, enabling her to share thousands of the much-needed protective suits to frontliners.
The latest among responders is Senate public services committee chair Sen. Grace Poe, who tapped Montealegre for the PPE donations her son Brian Poe Llamanzares handed to the National Center for Mental Health and other key hospitals.
Thanking the Senator in her social media post, Montealegre bared, “I met Sen. Grace Poe before she entered politics and even then, she’s truly the kindest soul. Her team would always help out in providing support to kids.”
The sports personality also acknowledged Llamanzares, who belonged to the same batch as Montealegre at the Ateneo de Manila University.
“Thanks to suppliers like Ms. Roxanne Montealegre who converted her clothing production line into a PPE manufacturing factory, we are able to distribute high-quality, locally made suits as donations to hospitals,” said Poe.
Aside from PPEs, Poe has also donated over 2,000 sacks of rice; close to 2,000 test kits; over 20,000 face masks; food packs and other forms of aid to frontliners and vulnerable families amid the pandemic.
