Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso assured that the operations of trucking organizations will remain unhampered in the city during the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
In a virtual conference with trucking organizations and other transport groups Tuesday, Domagoso said no truck will be flagged down and impounded in the country’s capital while it is under MECQ.
Truckers will be allowed to traverse the truck routes in the city even without the Terminal Appointment Booking System (TABS), the Manila mayor assured.
This is in line with the travel guidelines issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) stating that all types of cargoes — either by land, air, or sea — shall remain unhampered.
“We don’t have any issue with you for now, because you have a city government who understands you,” Domagoso said.
“Magiging light kami and I hope you will not abuse it,” he added.
Despite this, the local chief executive said laws against road violations, such as reckless driving, will be strictly enforced.
“Kailangan walang abusong darating sa inyo galing sa Pamahalaang [Lungsod] at wala din sanang abuso na darating galing sa inyo bilang negosyante,” he said.
In a related development, Domagoso said that motorists, particularly truckers, are discouraged from traversing Roxas Boulevard as some road cracks were spotted in the area earlier that day.
Those who are going south can take the Padre Burgos Avenue, before exiting right to Finance Road, going through Taft Avenue towards Ayala Boulevard, then make a right turn to San Marcelino Street.
From there, drivers must turn left towards United Nations Avenue to reach Quirino Avenue, where they must take another left to Osmeña Highway or South Superhighway. (Minka Tiangco)
